Help for Chilanga, Zambia

July 2010

Following a request from an employee in 2008, The Student Support Centre (Bucks) was happy to do what it could to assist by donating maths and English programme materials to Chilanga, Zambia to help children in the area with their studies.

That employee, Ms Pritchard used to live in Zambia and explained that the materials could be of great help.

Over a period of a few months the materials were distributed to schools in the city and surrounding villages to ensure all children could benefit.

In a letter to The Student Support Centre, Anderson K Chibwa, then High Commissioner for the Republic of Zambia said “The materials donated will go a very long way in accelerating the learning process for the children of Zambia in the early years of the formal educational process...Donations such as the one you made will greatly assist in ensuring a high standard quality of education”.

Andrew Jones at The Student Support Centre’s Office in Buckinghamshire said “When Ms Pritchard asked whether we could send some materials to Zambia, we thought it was a great opportunity. We’re overjoyed that the materials have been put to such good use and have benefited the children of Chilanga”.

About The Student Support Centre:

The Student Support Centre opened its doors in 1991 and has since become the largest provider of home-based tuition programmes with 9 regional offices across the UK.

Our ‘simply’ programmes provide home-based tuition and support for children aged between 4 and 17 and may be a more cost effective alternative to private tutors for learning maths, English and reading. They have been designed to mirror the way in which children are taught in schools based on the National Curriculum requirements and use the teaching methods currently recommended for use in schools.
